Hillsboro City Library Halloween Scavenger Hunt a Success

More than 70 area children recently gathered at the Hillsboro City Library for a Halloween-themed scavenger hunt. Both adults and children enjoyed searching for clues throughout the library, and prizes were awarded to all participants.

The Hillsboro City Library would like to invite area school-aged children to a Halloween Scavenger Hunt at the library. Children will search throughout the library for spooky clues. This event will take place from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Monday, October 31st. Prizes will be given to participants. Costumes optional!

Dedication of Library Sculpture Planned for October 12, 2011

The Friends of Hillsboro City Library will be hosting a dedication ceremony for the bronze sculpture in front of the library building on Wednesday, October 12th. The ceremony will begin at 5:15 p.m. on the steps of the library building. Winners from the recent contest to name the sculpture will be announced at that time and light refreshments will be served. The sculpture was crafted by the Randolph Rose Company of Yonkers, New York, and purchased by the Friends of the Hillsboro City Library in 2009.

Summer Reading Program Wraps Up

On Thursday, August 18th, the Hillsboro City Library wrapped up the Children’s Summer Reading Program. Area children enjoyed 16 mm movies and freshly popped popcorn which was provided by First National Bank of Central Texas. Certificates were also awarded after the program.

The Texas Reading Club is designed to encourage youth to read for pleasure and to promote library usage. A statewide theme is selected each year that emphasizes ways in which reading expands young minds and encourages children to use their imaginations. It also reminds young people that reading can be great fun. This year over 220 children registered for these free summer programs.

Each Tuesday the Hillsboro City Library has storytime for preschoolers at 10:00 a.m. in the children’s library. All area preschoolers are invited to attend. Children are read stories and create an art project.

Summer Reading Program Art Fest

Hillsboro Library’s Summer Reading Program participants enjoyed the final art fest for this summer on Thursday, August 11, 2011. Area children gathered at the Historic City Hall to make bookmarks, butterfly mobiles and ice cream refrigerator magnets. Next Thursday, August 18th, certificates will be given to all who participated in this fun and educational program. Join us for a movie and popcorn at Historic City Hall next Thursday!

Summer Readers Enjoy Art Fest

Area children gathered at the Historic City Hall on Thursday, August 4th, for the Hillsboro City Library’s Summer Reading Program Art Fest. Everyone enjoyed an afternoon of creating colorful mosaics and straw painting. This was the 9th weekly program for the summer. Don’t miss the upcoming events in August!

Texas Summer Reading Club 2011 Winding Down

The Texas Summer Reading Club 2011 “Dig Up a Good Book!” is in its final weeks. This fun and educational program provides opportunities for children of all ages to enjoy reading. Registered participants in grades 1-5 are encouraged to read library books on their reading levels and to keep a log of the time spent reading to earn incentive prizes.

Preschool Storytimes are held in the Children’s Library each Tuesday from 10-10:30 am. Each 30 minute session includes activities such as make & take crafts, listening to stories and fingerplays. Weekly Storytimes are designed for Preschool and Kindergarten age children.

We encourage area parents to apply for library cards for their children ages 6 and up. Library cards are FREE of charge. Proof of address is required. Visit the Library and pick up an application today!

The Hillsboro City Library is open Monday & Thursday 9-7, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday 9-5, and Saturday from 9-12 noon. We are conveniently located at 118 South Waco Street, one block south of the Hill County Courthouse.

Storytime with Angelia Orr

Angelia Orr was the guest reader for Storytime on Tuesday, August 2nd, at the Hillsboro City Library. Area children enjoyed listening to her read one of her favorite stories “Stellaluna.” As a make and take craft, the children created a tropical necklace.

Summer Reading Art Fest-We Love Dinosaurs!

Area children gathered at the Historic City Hall on July 28th for the Hillsboro City Library Summer Program “We Love Dinosaurs!” More than 100 participants enjoyed an afternoon making a variety of art projects related to dinosaurs and fossils.
