			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>At the April 5, 2011 regular Hillsboro City Council meeting, the Council accepted the Certification of Unopposed Candidates presented by the City Secretary. Incumbents for Place 1 – Jim Riggins, Place 3 – Dana Robinson and Place 5 – John Versluis filed for re-election and were unopposed. Mayor John Erwin did not seek a third full term as the Mayor.  Mayor Pro Tem Edith Omberg, currently representing Place 2 ran for Mayor and was also unopposed. Since all the candidates were unopposed, the order was issued declaring the City Officers Election, having the central polling place at Hillsboro Junior High School Gym, 210 E. Walnut, Hillsboro, Texas, On May 14, 2011 cancelled.</p>
<p>The following candidates are declared to be elected for the terms established by the Charter of the City of Hillsboro, Texas:</p>
<h3>Mayor, Elected at Large &#8211; Edith Omberg</h3>
<h3>Councilmember, Place 1 &#8211; Jim Riggins</h3>
<h3>Councilmember, Place 3 &#8211; Dana Robinson</h3>
<h3>Councilmember, Place 5 &#8211; John Versluis</h3>
<p>Candidates will take the Oath of Office and be issued a Certificate of Election at the regular meeting of the City Council scheduled for May 17, 2011.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The City of Hillsboro elects Council members by Precinct.  The City is divided into five (5) districts (precincts) and candidates must live in the precinct they serve.  These precincts are designated Councilmember Places 1 through 5.  The Mayor and Council Place 6 are elected At-Large which allows every registered voter to cast a vote for those positions.  The Mayor and Places 1, 3, and 5 are elected in odd-numbered years and Places 2, 4, and 6 are elected in even-numbered years.  All positions serve 2 year terms and there are no term limits.  The current council includes:</p>

<p>Applications will be accepted for Place 2, 4 and 6 which is Elected At-Large for the May 2010 Election.  The City Council will officially call for the election at their February 2nd meeting.  <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>The first day to file an application with the City Secretary to be a candidate is February 6, 2010 and the last day to file is 5:00 p.m. on March 8, 2010.</strong></span> Information on qualifications for candidates and applications are available by contacting City Secretary, Karen S.
