Question: Where is the Library located?

Answer:

The Hillsboro City Library is located at 118 S. Waco Street, one block south of the Hill County Courthouse.

Question: What are the Library’s hours of operation?

Answer:

Monday and Thursday, 9am-7pm
Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, 9am-5pm
Saturday, 9am-12noon

Question: What do I need in order to get a library card?

Answer:

To get a library card, you must show proof of address, such as drivers license, bill receipt, mail or checks. Children under 18 must have the library card application signed by a parent or responsible adult.

Question: Is there a charge for getting a library card?

Answer:

Library cards are free to all.

Question: What are the loan periods of library materials?

Answer:

Items may be checked out for a period of 2 weeks.

Question: How many times do you allow a patron to renew an item?

Answer:

Patrons may renew an item up to 2 times, if the item is not on a waiting list.

Question: Can you get materials from other libraries?

Answer:

We offer a free Interlibrary Loan service to our patrons. This service may be used for materials that are not owned by our library.

Question: Does the library have out-of-town newspapers?

Answer:

We receive daily editions of the Wall Street Journal, Dallas Morning News, Fort Worth Star Telegram and the Waco Tribune Herald. We do not receive any Sunday newspapers.

Question: Does the library take book donations?

Answer:

We do not take book donations.

Question: Does the library sell books?

Answer:

We no longer have annual books sales, but please drop by and browse our “sale shelf” on the back porch! We are continuously adding items that are discarded from our collection.

Question: What are the costs of computer printouts and/or copy machine copies?

Answer:

When printing from the public access computers, black & white pages are 10 cents per page and color pages are 50 cents per page. Our staff will gladly make copies for 20 cents per page.

Question: Do you have a genealogy department?

Answer:

Yes, we have a genealogy/local history section on the upper level of the library.

Question: Do you have someone that can look up genealogy information for me?

Answer:

Our genealogy section is maintained by volunteers. We will gladly forward requests for information to them. Make sure to include your email address, telephone number and mailing address with your request. Response time may vary according to request.

Question: Do you have a public fax machine?

Answer:

We do not offer fax services for the public.

Question: May I use my own laptop in your library, and will I be able to connect to your wireless Internet service?

Answer:

You are welcome to bring your own laptop into the library. Most people are able to connect to our wireless Internet service without difficulty.

Question: Do you have legal forms and/or legal packets that patrons may use?

Answer:

We have reference books with legal forms in them. You are responsible for locating the forms that you need. We will gladly make copies from these books for 20 cents per page.

Question: Do you have IRS Tax forms?

Answer:

During tax season, we have many tax forms and publications available in our lobby area. If we do not have the forms that you need, you may find them online at www.irs.gov.

Question: Can you tell me which tax forms I will need?

Answer:

We cannot provide assistance in selecting tax forms. There are other libraries/organizations that provide tax assistance for the elderly.
