City Council Officers Election May 12, 2012

The City of Hillsboro elects Councilmembers by Precinct. The City is divided into five (5) districts (precincts) and candidates must live in the precinct they serve. These precincts are designated Councilmember Places 1 through 5. The Mayor and Council Place 6 are Elected At Large which allows every registered voter to cast a vote for those positions. The Mayor and Places 1, 3, and 5 are elected in odd numbered years and Places 2, 4, and 6 are elected in even numbered years.

All positions serve 2 year terms and there are no term limits. The current council includes:

Applications will be accepted for Place 2, 4 and 6 for the May 2012 Election. The City Council officially called for the election at their February 7th meeting. The last day to file an application with the City Secretary to be a candidate is 5:00 p.m. on March 5, 2012.

There has been no word from the Department of Justice in Washington, DC regarding the Submission Under Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act Requesting Preclearance for the Redistricting of the City Council and Related Changes to Election Precincts for the City of Hillsboro. Therefore, a map indicating the precinct boundaries will be posted as soon as possible on the city’s web site at You will also be able to check your new Voter Registration Certificate which identifies your voting precinct on the right side, as an example HIL(1-5).
