NX7M0108 Retouched (Keepsake Post Card)

A re-dedication ceremony will be held on Saturday, December 12th, at 2:30 with an open house from 2-5 p.m. and a community prayer gathering on Sunday, December 13th, beginning at 8 a.m.

The beautifully renovated building, located at 127 East Franklin Street, housed all city offices, including fire and police departments for years. In 1977, the city offices were moved to South Waco Street, where the Municipal Court is located today. The fire department was relocated to the West Franklin Street location upon completion of its new building in 1994. In February, 2004, the police department relocated to its current home on North Waco Street.

In early 2006, the first renovation on the building was completed. The marketing and development department occupied the first floor offices, followed later in the year by the Main Street department.

The main bays, once home to the fire trucks, became the focus of the next renovation process, and were transformed into council chambers and a community gathering space. In October of 2007, the first council meeting was held in the building. The most recent restoration was the addition of a new roof and the replacement of aluminum windows with wood window frames.

A committee headed by council member Betty Birdwell has been charged with raising necessary funds to return the water feature to the front of the building.
