2014 Citizens Police Academy

The Hillsboro Police Department is accepting applications for the 2014 Citizens Police Academy, beginning Thursday, February 20th. The community outreach program gives participants the opportunity to have a better understanding of the role of the police officer and what is required of them. The program allows for open communication between members of the community and law enforcement personnel. The meetings are held at the Police Department Training room, 303 N. Waco Street. The 12 week program meets on Thursday evenings, 6:00 pm until approximately 7:30 pm. Subjects will include patrol operation, building searches, criminal investigations and more. There will be instructors from state and federal law enforcement agencies. Students are asked to ride with a patrol officer during a weekend night shift, giving them a first-hand experience of what an officer may encounter. The academy is open to anyone living or working in the Hillsboro area. Participants will be subject to a background check. For further information and applications, please contact the Hillsboro Police Department’s Public Liaison, Paula Bettis, at 254-582-8406 ext. 20.
