Funds Approved for Municipal Airport
The Texas Transportation Commission (TTC) recently approved funds to make improvements at the Hillsboro Municipal Airport.
The $489,950 project is being funded through the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) Aviation Facilities Grant Program.
According to airport Manager Dave Heald, the money will be used to make much needed runway improvements.
“I have been manager at the airport for the past seven years, so it’s been at least that long since the runway has been resurfaced. It is in bad need and past due,” Heald added.
The project was expected to get underway this summer, but federal funds were tied up in Washington following a freeze imposed by the Obama administration.
There was a benefit though, as during the interim the city’s match for the grant decreased from 10 percent to five percent.
Federal-stimulus funds were allotted for the program, saving the city approximately $25,000.
