Location: Historic City Hall, 127 E. Franklin Street. Hillsboro TX 76645
The Assistance to Firefighters Grant is a program of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Grants are awarded to fire departments to enhance their ability to protect the public and fire service personnel from fire and related hazards. Three types of grants are available: Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG), Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grants (SAFER), and Fire Prevention and Safety Grants (FP&S).
These grants are made directly to local fire and EMS agencies to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and nonaffiliated EMS agencies. In 2008 some $737.5 million was awarded to more than 6,000 agencies across the nation. In some grants, no local match is required. You can read more about the program at www.firegrantsupport.com.
Each year workshops are conducted to review the changes in the program and assist department prepare competitive applications. A representative from the Grant Program Office will discuss 2010 grant goals for the AFG, SAFER and Fire Prevention grants as well as details of the application and tips on how to write a competitive application. The workshop session is free to all participants and will include ample time for questions. If you have questions about the workshop you may contact Diane Breedlove at diane.breedlove@associates.dhs.gov or call 512 392-2511. No advance registration is required.
