The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will conduct a public hearing to discuss improvements to Interstate (IH) 35 in McLennan and Hill Counties. The hearing is scheduled for Thursday, August 19, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. at the Czech Inn located at 21735 N. IH 35 (Exit 353) in West.
This construction project would begin at FM 1858 (Tokio Road) in West and end at FM 1304 north of Abbott. The purpose of this project is to widen this section of IH 35 from four lanes to six lanes and to relocate and convert the existing two-way frontage roads to one way. The purpose of this project is to reduce congestion and enhance safety by accommodating traffic volumes which are expected to double on this section of IH 35 in the next 20 years.
These improvements would require approximately 120 acres of additional right-of-way. The existing right-of-way is approximately 260 ft wide. The proposed right-of-way would be approximately 450 ft wide and would require residential and commercial relocations. Information about the state’s relocation assistance program and relocation program will be presented at the hearing. This project traverses the floodplains of Alligator, Rocky and Cottonwood Creeks.
Maps and other drawings showing the proposed location and design will be displayed at the hearing. The Environmental Assessment for the project will also be available for inspection at the hearing. Other information about the proposed project is on file and available for inspection at the TxDOT Waco District Office located at 100 South Loop Drive, Waco, TX 76704.

All interested citizens are invited to attend this hearing and present their comments. Persons interested in attending the hearing who have special communication or accommodation needs are encouraged to contact Mr. Michael Rhodes at (254) 867-2739 as soon as possible so arrangements can be made. Since the hearing will be conducted in English, any requests for language interpreters or other special communication needs should be made at least one week prior to the hearing. TxDOT will make every reasonable effort to accommodate these needs.
Verbal and written comments regarding the proposed project are requested. Comments may be presented either at the hearing or in writing after the hearing. Comments must be received no later than 5:00 pm, Monday, August 30, 2010 following the hearing in order to be included in the public hearing record.
