Objective

Be a warm, friendly, and passionate person who loves providing quality customer service in an ever changing, never quiet, and always busy environment. Must be dependable and punctual. Someone who finds that they are excited by the thought of working hands-on with new technologies and assisting others in learning about technology. Enjoy learning new things, and are passionate about helping others learn new things. Live for community outreach and love working with children, families, and older adults. Skilled in the use of computers, phones, tablets, and other electronic devices of all varieties. Must be able to work some evenings and weekends.

General State of Duties

This is a nonsupervisory position. Primary duties include assisting library patrons, shelving materials, assisting patrons with personal and library technology, and many other various clerical duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assist with circulation desk duties;

  1. Assist patrons with technology questions;

  1. Checking in and out library materials;

  1. Shelve materials in alphabetical order and Dewey Decimal order;

  1. Answer phone calls;

  1. Taking money and issuing receipts;

  1. Data entry;

  1. Make library cards;

  1. Suggest reading material;

  1. Make photocopies and send faxes;

  1. Clean incoming materials;

  1. Help to prepare new materials for circulation;

  1. Assist with all library programming and projects as may be required

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must be able to work evening and weekend hours.

Must have ability to relate well with people of all ages, backgrounds, ethnicities, and dispositions in a professional manner.

Must be comfortable with learning new technologies and programs.

Must be comfortable with basic Microsoft Office Suite applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher, etc…

It is desired to be familiar with Canva, MailChimp, Yahoo, Google, Outlook, and many other web-based services or ability to learn.

Acceptable Experience and Training

High school diploma or GED (preferably with some college) and two years’ work experience in a library or clerical position.

OR

Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Certificates and Licenses Required

Texas Driver’s License.
