On April 15, 2025, Councilmember Frances Zarate announced her resignation and vacated the Place 4 seat of the Hillsboro City Council.
In accordance with the City of Hillsboro Charter, Section 3.06, Vacancies, Forfeiture, and Filling of Vacancies, Councilmember vacancies may be filled by Council appointment and the selected appointee serves until the next regular City Election.
The process to fill the vacancy will follow the procedure established by Council in 2005. Council will fill the vacancy by establishing an open process whereby candidates expressing interest could come forward for consideration. The process allows candidates to submit Letters of Interest in early May. Afterward, there will be an open meeting(s) to interview those interested persons and then make the appointment.
The Last day to submit application/letter of interest will be on May 26, 2025 at noon.
The City Secretary’s office will review applicants and present the candidates at the Council meeting on June 3, 2025. Based on the candidates, the Council may then determine how best to make the selection.
