Public Notice: The City of Hillsboro Elevated Industrial Water Tower Project Phase I & Phase II
The City of Hillsboro Elevated Industrial Water Tower Project Phase I is a 500,000 gallon elevated storage tank that replaced an older and smaller water tower. The project was mostly funded by Texas Water Development Board using SRF Funding through the EPA, with local funding making up the balance. This project used those dollars to improve water service for roughly 1/3 of the City of Hillsboro, including our Industrial Park and major employers. The new water supply has improved pressure and reliability.
- 500,000-gal Composite Water Storage Tank, City of Hillsboro
- DWSRF administering agency: Texas Water Development Board
- Funded in whole or in part by DWSRF through the EPA: Partially funded by DWSRF from the EPA and the TWDB with the remaining funds from the local City of Hillsboro
- Description of project: This project includes the construction of a 500,00 gallon composite elevated storage tank, site piping and other site improvements.
- Water quality benefits:
- Prevents Contamination: New tanks are built with high-quality, food-grade materials that do not leach harmful substances into the water. They also feature better sealing to prevent external contaminants like dirt, insects, and wildlife from entering the stored water.
- Reduces Bacterial Growth: A new tank provides a clean environment, reducing the risk of bacterial buildup that can occur in older, deteriorating tanks. Features like algae-resistant materials or proper tank ventilation further inhibit microbial growth.
- Facilitates Monitoring and Maintenance: Newer tanks make it easier to conduct water quality tests and implement regular cleaning, ensuring the water is consistently safe and potable.
The City of Hillsboro Elevated Industrial Water Tower Project Phase II includes the installation of a pump station and ground storage tank that connect to the new 500,000 gallon elevated storage.
- Phase 2 GST, Pump Station and Distribution Improvements, City of Hillsboro
- DWSRF administering agency: Texas Water Development Board
- Funded in whole or in part by DWSRF through the EPA: Partially funded by DWSRF from the EPA and the TWDB with the remaining funds from the local City of Hillsboro
- Description of the project: This project includes the construction of a 1000 gpm Pump Station, 100,000 gallon welded steel storage tank, and approximately 5000 linear feet of distribution water main.
- Water quality benefits:
- Consistency: Stabilizing pressure and providing a constant flow rate from the pump reduces fluctuations that can impact water quality.
- Source Water Blending: Tanks can be used to mix water from different sources if needed, allowing for the dilution of water from an impaired source with water from a better source.
- Reduced Contamination Risk: Maintaining consistent, stable water pressure with a pump and storage system minimizes the risk of sediment buildup and contamination from backflow or negative pressure.
- Odor Reduction: Tanks can help dissipate noxious gases, like the "rotten egg" odor from sulfur.
- Sediment Removal: Water storage allows time for sediment to settle out, resulting in clearer water.
